  • I bought this item for my husband and he loves it. He can quickly do a full body workout and he doesnt have to worry about the additional stress from lifting heavy weights on his joints, etc. He gets a great workout and was previously working out using 250lb+ barbells. And did I mention, that he looks great? I can see lots of definition in his body now since he has started working out with the T.O. Stong Man Resistance Bands.

  • I was a little skeptikal in buying these. I had seen some resistance bands before, but the more and more research I did on these the more I figured these would work. THey are great. They have more than enough resistance for me and I am pretty strong. The dvd that comes with it is a little cheesy and annoying, but there are plenty of resistance band dvds out there or you can just use the bands for a workout. I truly enjoy them..oh and on another point shipping was very quick. I ordered from Amazon on a sunday afternoon and recieved them on Tuesday…and thats with standard shipping. Peace

  • Todd Dolce says:

After reading so many wonderful reviews about the TO Strongman Bodylastics,…I figured that I would give them a try just to see how strong these things are.

Being a heavyweight lifter myself, I had some serious doubt that these latex tubes were really going to do it for me,…but again,..at 46,…I was looking for a change and tired of lugging steel plates around just for a short lifting interval.

Let me begin by saying that these tubes are indeed heavy duty and pretty well constructed. The problems I had with these things became immediate to me with my first “real” test with them. First off, the fact that these bands come in strange resistance weights makes it quite odd to adjust to. When you double them up and use both handles,…the odd numbers even out,…but messing around during the initiation phase trying to figure out what colors to use for your workout is just plain ridiculous. I tried to be patient, and adjust myself to this new way of lifting, but as I clipped on some bands, the resistance just didn’t feel right.

When you press with rubber or latex,…you have “dead” space and it also has a jerkiness to it even at light resistance levels. There is perhaps a 50-60% area of the lift that indeed feels right and really does what it claims to do,…but there is a 40% or so loss in the return that just feels wrong.

I can see these bands being beneficial to someone who travels a lot, loves to use lighter weight and circuit train, or hasn’t really become used to the traditional way of lifting, but it just doesn’t work for me. It’s very awkward and the strap that connects the latex to the clips burns as it scratches against my forearm on several lifts. My hands are VERY large and even though these handles are of decent construction,..they still weren’t as comfortable as I would have liked them. On a few presses,…I could feel the core of the handle beneath the foam and that was awkward too.

I will be returning these bands very soon and saving up to buy a weight stack home gym with the good old fashion steel weight.

A tip for those that may want to try these:

Work “against” the door so that it is pulling against the frame and you will not have an accident if somebody opens the door.

  • I bought this set around Xmas 2009 just after my second daughter was born. I figured the added responsibilities might keep me away from the gym more than I’d like. I used this product for about 3 weeks with Bosylastics [...] website so I could see it being used and how routines could be put together with them. I then began a ball and Band routine Muscle and Fitness put together for use with these bands. At first it didn’t feel like my larger muscles were really getting the work I was used to in the gym. After 2 months I noticesd that my arms did look bigger and I lost no size in my chest. That was promising, but are the muscles really being worked? Well, I decided to hit the gym and test that out. I did squats, pull downs and bench press. I loaded up my weight to match what I had last done approximately 3 months prior. To my surprise the weight was too light. I had to increase the weight in all my lifts! I also noticed that the actual action of using free weights seemed easier. Very surpriseing results.

    Pros:

Bands are hardcore durable. You’d really need to abuse these to destroy them.

They are ultra protable and leave little excuse not to work out.

The weight indications are close but not exact to free weights. This is good b/c it puts your ego in check. You stop worrying about the # and more on how the work feels.

The bands are easy on the jonts. Your body doesn’t feel as abused after using them.

Strength gains are real world gains not just gym only strength.

You can get really creative with exercises. Much more can be done than what is depicted in the manual or on the website. Makes this pretty amazing for Sports specific training.

Can be used in conjuntion with free weights ie, Barbell bench with bands to gain some unique benefits.

    Cons:

I find squatting with the bands to be unconfortable and awkward. I pretty much max out to have enough weight on the bands which makesit hard on my wrists. The bands then rub too much on my shoulders. The fix here is to go lighter with more reps but some routines I need to go heavy at lower reps. I’ve made due, but admit this is my least favorite thing to do with the bands.

I can’t max out weight on Chest press. The reason for this is that the increased resistance from the bands pull my body back toward the door. As a result I have to use far less than what I am capable of and as with the squats must use less resistance and more reps.

I find that many homes don’t really have the most ideal doors for use with the door anchor. Most doors are in a corner not in the middle of the room with ample wall space around them. In my home I had 1 door with the room needed. This door however was too high off the ground to the anchor on the bottom was not safe. I got creative and solved this issue and have seen the creative work arounds others have made for this. This wasn’t a horrible thing for me but something people need to be aware of.

    Summary:

I’d have to say that these things are a worthwhile buy and depending on what your fitness goals are could possibly replace classical weigh training for some. They are 100 times better than a hotel gym for Gym rats that need to travel. You can make real strength and endurance gains with the bands and indeed transform your body with them. The our high quality and in my opinion other resistance bands don’t even compare to these.

One other note is the quality service you get from Bodylastics. The creator is actively involved with customers and backs his product. In fact he demonstrates it everyday on his free live exercise show. So in essence you gain a training partner with this company. Also, When I received my set I noticed a slight manufacturing error. My 5 lb band was labeled as 13lbs on one of the clips. Not a big deal in my book but worth noting to Bodylastics in case this was a manufacturing error that could lead to more serious defects atthe factory if not kept in check. I truly expected nothing from Bodylastics but quickly received a replacement band a week later. I contacted service again to ask what I should do about shipping the original band back to them since it works perfectly fine, just needs the right clip on it for the weight indication. I was told to keep it if I wanted to. They were addressing the error on their end. So I gained an additional band. In this day and age it is rare to find quality service but Ashanti at Bodylastics definitly delivered.

Try this product out. Give it time and don’t make rash judgments on it based on a week of effort. Give it a full run like you would a workout routine. You may be suprised at what these bands can deliver even if you are a seasoned gym rat.

p.s. Muscle & Fitness has an article on the benefits of strength band training in conjunction with free weights. You can look it up on their website.

  • I have always liked working out but do not have room at my house for any big equipment so I surfed the web and found strength bands. I love these things! They are well made and well worth the money. I can do anything that I would do in a gym and I got them in I think 3 days. I am very satisfied….very satisfied. I am spreading the word about them to all my coworkers at General Electric.
